Recipes, cookbooks, and future directions

24 Mar
Above is a tray of Cold Asian Noodle Salad that I made for the cookbook release/tasting party at my mom’s hospital. In addition to this one, I also had recipes for Chicken Enchiladas and Chickpea and Potato Curry printed in this employee cookbook. All the recipes are signed off with my name and “Daughter of Navneet, Pharmacy”. My mom chuckled at that, but she deserves credit too! ūüôā Also, I’m not an employee¬†of their hospital so some explanation of my presence in the cookbook is required.¬†They are selling copies of this to raise money for the March of Dimes foundation (this explains the baby on the cover). I am pretty excited that I officially am a published author! Haha…baby steps. Get it, baby steps?? Baby on cover? You get it.

Caesar Salad (Well, sort of…)

12 Mar

This is not Caesar salad per se, but the closest that I get to it at home. I don’t have time to deal with eggs, garlic, and anchovies, I save that for the restaurants! You might think it’s not worth dedicating an entire post to lettuce, but something wonderful happens when you chop it up and toss it with ranch dressing, freshly shredded parmesan, and a pinch of salt and pepper. That’s the magic I’m talking about here!¬† Continue reading

Indian Porridge- “Dalia”

Delicious bowl of dalia

My life has been a whirlwind these past couple of weeks, as I expect all of yours have been during the holiday season! A lot of it was excellent fun, which I am very thankful for, and yet¬†yesterday was somewhat of a slow start to the New Year as I rested at home¬†due to¬†what I presume is a viral infection.¬†It has progressed somewhat and I woke up today with a terrible headache. I still have horrible memories of my last illness in November, when I got body aches/chills and felt so miserable that I could barely get out of bed. It’s not so bad this time. I think I bolstered my immune system with Vitamin C/herbal supplements and fresh fruit packed with antioxidants, such as pomegranate. I’m not completely out of the woods yet, and I’m back at work, but I’ll try to sleep early tonight and get some rest.¬† Continue reading

Small steps, small changes

7 Nov

The title of this post aside, I think President Obama winning another four years in the White House was a big step for America. Big! I went for a walk tonight with my mom, and we discussed his victory speech and how moving and heartfelt it was. (And how he prepared himself well and had¬†a concession speech ready too, unlike his opponent!) Funny enough, we both noticed the way he embraced his wife and daughters and then looked¬†after them as¬†they walked off the stage, just before he was ready to approach the podium. I think that was a look of about several seconds, and I don’t know what he was thinking, but it was really touching because I could see how much he loved his family. My mom and I both agreed that this is the kind of man we want leading our country. Continue reading

Easy to eat a bowl of ice cream, but running…

26 Oct

Running really, really hurt today. I ran only 20 minutes around the neighborhood but it felt like an hour! Why, why??? Just the day before yesterday, I ran for about a half hour and it didn’t feel so bad as today. I guess this is what happens when you try to exercise on a regular basis after having not moved much for 3 weeks!

That is me up there, post run. A¬†pursed smile that¬†says “Yes, I tried, reluctantly.”¬†¬†See that number to my left? That was for¬†a¬†5K back in May. I finished at 30:12. I was actually really excited about running back then. I researched a bunch of 5Ks, but I never ended up training for or signing up for any of them. What a shame! I should look up a run and sign up, maybe that will provide some daily motivation.

Anyway, I guess all I came here to say is that eating a bowl of ice cream is SO EASY but trying to burn it off is just an insane amount of effort. Who knows, maybe all I burned off is just the chocolate syrup. Bah!

I had just wanted to take a nap today but instead I forced myself to run. I guess I can be proud of that. Also, no more ice cream. It just ain’t worth the effort I have to expend!
